The Bridge School

Chadwick Road, Astmoor, Runcorn, WA7 1PW

The Bridge School is a Pupil Referral Unit for KS3 & KS4 students. The school is excited to offer the opportunity for an outstanding and dedicated Motor Vehicle & Engineering Teaching Assistant to join us on the next stage of our transformational journey.

We are looking for an inspirational, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is passionate about supporting young people to develop practical skills, build confidence and achieve success. You will have experience, knowledge or a keen interest in the motor vehicle and engineering sectors and be committed to helping students engage in learning through meaningful vocational experiences that prepare them for the world of work.

Since the appointment of new senior leadership in September 2025, the school has embarked on an exciting journey with a revolutionary new curriculum offer and extended opportunities for students to achieve. Our school is committed to staff development and wellbeing, including additional paid wellbeing days off, praise and rewards, and a forward-thinking leadership team who continually seek ways to reduce workload and support staff.

The role comes with the opportunity to support the delivery of our exciting Motor Vehicle & Engineering curriculum, helping students develop industry-specific knowledge, practical skills and employability attributes. We are looking for someone who can support high-quality learning experiences, encourage student participation and help create a positive, engaging and professional workshop environment.

Here at The Bridge School, we are all passionate about developing, supporting and working with some of the most vulnerable students in Halton. To us, we genuinely see that we are changing lives daily. The students at The Bridge School exhibit social, emotional and mental health needs which can present through a range of behaviours. We therefore require a professional who is patient, resilient, adaptable and committed to helping young people overcome barriers and realise their potential.

As a successful applicant, you will have the skills to support students who may have experienced difficulties within education and who may lack confidence, motivation or resilience. You will be able to identify individual strengths and barriers to learning, implementing innovative and creative strategies to support engagement and progress. You will help students develop both vocational and personal skills, encouraging professionalism, problem-solving, teamwork and pride in their work.

Working alongside teachers and curriculum leaders, you will support students during practical Motor Vehicle & Engineering lessons, ensuring equipment and tools are prepared, resources are organised and health and safety expectations are rigorously maintained. You will assist with demonstrations, practical activities and intervention support, helping students develop the technical skills and confidence required for future education, apprenticeships, employment or training opportunities.

You will support students in developing an understanding of vehicle maintenance, engineering principles, workshop practices, the safe use of tools and equipment, and industry-standard expectations. We are looking for someone who can inspire students through practical learning experiences and help them recognise the exciting opportunities available within the engineering, manufacturing and automotive sectors.

Successful candidates should have the skills and personality to develop professional and sustainable relationships with both staff and students. Being positive, calm, resilient, consistent and reliable are essential qualities. You will play a key role in supporting students’ social, emotional and mental health development, helping them to improve behaviour, increase engagement and experience success.

You will work closely with teachers, Teaching Assistants, Key Workers and senior leaders to provide personalised support for individual students. The ability to work effectively as part of a team, whilst demonstrating initiative, flexibility and a positive attitude, is essential. Previous experience within the motor vehicle, engineering, manufacturing or related industries would be desirable, although enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and a commitment to supporting young people are equally important.

This is an incredible opportunity to join an exceptional team within a small but vibrant school setting and to have a significant impact on the life outcomes of the young people in our care. We are a proud team who welcome passion, commitment and a determination to overcome barriers and create positive change.

It is highly advisable to arrange a visit to the school, where we would be happy to answer any questions. Please contact the Headteacher, Aarron Stafford, at admin@thebridge.halton.sch.uk. He will be happy to speak to you in detail about the post.

You should note that, if successful, you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check or Enhanced DBS Check for Regulated Activity (formerly Criminal Records Bureau). Further information about DBS checks can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.

The Council and its schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.
